Recently discovered on eBay is this wild old school hot rod drag boat, built in 1965. This was a turnkey drag boat offered by Hallett. It’s a flat bottom hull design, but the coolest thing about it is the engine, it’s none other than one of Ford's famous 427 side-oiler engines. To add to the cool factor it’s the original, never blown up, just upgraded in the ’70s with a cylinder head and intake manifold swap from the original medium riser heads to the high riser heads and intake.

This was the engine that Ford took 30 NASCAR wins with over Chevy and Chrysler in 1964. It finished the 24 Hours at LeMans dominating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in 1966. It also won the 1964 Super Stock Title in NHRA, in all its variations from Low, Medium, and the High-Riser versions, the 427 FE engine has set records in numerous forms of competition.

It’s the engine that powered the Shelby Cobra and it has found its way under the hood of most body styles that Ford produced like Galaxies, the notorious Thunderbolts, Fairlanes and was even available in wagons and sedans as special order. Just knowing the history of the engine and the era when this boat was built, you know this had to be a pretty expensive toy, even back then.

As you can see this boat has been kept in amazing condition for its age, and you have to wonder if the present economy has thrown caution to the wind, because as the auction closed it had yet to receive a single bid.
