Fords at the Summit to be discontinued for 2011

December 10, 2010 -- First and foremost I want to thank each of you for supporting Fords at the Summit; however with this message I must confirm some bad news. Summit Motorsports Park has made the decision to discontinue Fords at the Summit. Due to terrible weather and the poor economy, the event did not deliver the attendance that was needed to move forward with year three. I thank Bill Bader and Summit Motorsports Park for the opportunity to work on the development of an all Ford event. Personally I am very disappointed that we will not see year three at Summit. We all can agree Summit is a fantastic event venue and made a wonderful site for this show. My hopes are to find a new home for our Ford community to gather.

I apologize for my delay in informing you of this development. At the close of the 2010 show, plans were in place to move forward. In fact the 2011 event had already scheduled a Boss Reunion. With that addition, we were hopeful of bringing another large group of Ford enthusiast to Fords at the Summit; however, after full review of the show, the decision was made to eliminate the event. The financials just did not support a third year.

Once I knew that we could not have the event at Summit, I immediately began looking for a new home, hoping that a new site could be named at the same time the cancellation was announced. Unfortunately, no facility site has been confirmed. A number of options have been ruled out based on availability, location, and venue particulars. Two sites that are still in consideration are The Quaker City drag strip located near Youngstown, Ohio and the Edgewater Sports Park, Cleves, Ohio. Quaker City is under new ownership and management, and the new ownership is still working through logistics. In addition there is an active search going on for alternative sites. In event planning we prefer a year to organize an event, so scheduling for 2011 does not look good due to the short lead time. The formula for an all Ford family show offering drag racing, show field, and a swap meet that caters to Ford enthusiasts is one that I have not given up on. It is still my hope to be able to find the right home for this type of event. Special thanks to those of you who have already shown your support and assistance in finding new site options.

As you all know, a successful event takes the support of everyone - individual enthusiasts, clubs, swap vendors (both professional and the occasional weekend vendor), manufacturers and sponsors. I am thankful for everyone's support. I also want to send out a big thank you to our sponsors NPD, UPR, and Custom Wire Sets.

Regarding the Boss Reunion, I am happy to say a replacement site has been named. The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan, www.MOCSEM.com, will host the Reunion. This is a three-day gathering of some of the finest Bosses from around the country, culminating with their participation in the Mustang Memories show on Sunday, August 7th at Ford World Headquarters. More details will be posted on their web site as plans unfold. I am looking forward to attending and perhaps I'll see you there.

I'll close for now. I am still very committed to developing an all Ford event that embraces the Ford community. Stay tuned for updates. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your thoughts and comments. Again your support is very much appreciated.

A very Merry Christmas to you and your family and best wishes for a safe and Happy New Year.
