April 17, 2010 - Pontiac, Michigan -- Shuttered since 2006, the Pontiac Silverdome roared back to life under new ownership. No longer a public facility, private ownership from Canada has reopened this once great facility with one of it's legendary events.

No, this wasn't a Monster Jam event with all the familiar trucks from the Pro Circuit. These trucks were either newbies trying to break into the sport or older drivers living out their last days in the sport. The older trucks really were easy to spot in the event as they were the first ones to break down out on the field of battle. I would say of the first five trucks to run, four of them broke down or turned over way to early. It all just whets your appetite for the Monster Jam's return to the Silverdome in 2011!

One vehicle of particular interest in this competition was a truck, bodied with a 1968 Mustang Fastback. He was there to attempt to do something incredible. He wanted to perform a double back flip with this vehicle. At first, we in the audience were not quite sure of what we were hearing, were they talking about

the support racers riding the motorcycles through the course? Nope! This guy was serious and was going to attempt to perform a double back flip with his Monster Truck Mustang. It was a valiant attempt, but he did one complete rotation in the air - which in and of itself was a most impressive thing to see. The double back flip continues to elude him.

The turnout for this event was quite good, almost the entire lower bowl seats were filled. The stadium itself showed signs of age, but was very clean. The bathrooms definately need to be remodeled and food concessions will also need to be improved, as most of the concession stands ran out of food before the event was over. Also, the prices being charged for food and drink was nothing short of outrageous!

Over time, things will improve and the Dome will be a viable venue in Southeastern Michgian once again. But for now, those of us in attendance take solace in being part of history, for the reopening of the Dome.
