Boss Shelby
Text and Photos by Dean V. Ricci

After 4 years in the making, Al Mirani from Michigan's Downriver community, has unveiled his 68 Shelby "GT429". Powered by a Supercharged Boss 429, Al's little rocketship kicks out an impressive 1200 horsepower.

At first glance, one might think the car is simply a modified 68 Mustang, but upon further inspection, you will find all the applicable Shelby American ID tags on the vehicle.

The car features a tube frame from the firewall forward, and a full cage in the interior. The rear has been fully tubbed to house those big "meats", that this powertrain has no trouble turning into smoke. The car sounds as impressive as it looks with full tube headers dumping into 3 inch exhausts.

Al actually had the car all put together around this time last year, but a small embarassing mishap caused significant damage to the vehicle.

As he was working on the powertrain and braking systems, the car accidently slipped into the forward gear and blasted right through the back of his garage. So, not only was he faced with severe damage to his car, he was faced with a home (garage) improvement project as well.

This is a car that is built to be driven. Once Al works all the bugs out of the car and gets it running right, he's predicting 1/4 mile times in the high 7s, low 8's. To me, it looks like its going that fast just by standing next to it.

This is one Shelby that certainly won't be a museum piece !
