Can you identify this car ?
by Dean V. Ricci

There was a convention that took place in the mid 1980s at the Hyatt Regency in the city of Dearborn, Michigan.

The photo you see at the top of this page is of a NASCAR style stock car equipped with a 429 c.i.d. big block Ford engine. This car is travelling on Michigan Avenue, directly behind the convention site at the Dearborn Hyatt. To those of us that were in attendance -- it was one hell of a sight !

The purpose of this article is to gain information about this particular car, the only known NASCAR type vehicle to travel on Michigan Avenue since the city of Dearborn was formed.

Imagine a 429 big block running at full throttle with open exhaust as
hundreds of conventioneers looked on in awe !

The car was shod will full race rubber and I remember it having a heck of a time negotiating the turn off the Southfield Road service drive
So, are there any of you out there that had the opportunity to attend this memorable convention? Can you tell us what year it took place? Will you share with us your memories of this event. Can you tell us what production year Cougar did this car represent? How did it come to be built ?
