The band Deep Purple recorded a song "Smoke on the Water" which tells the tale of a performance of the Mothers of Invention being cut short due to a fire breaking out, with the lyric "some stupid with a Flare Gun, burned the place to the ground".

This recording is of that fateful show
at  Montreux, Switzerland in 1971.

directing people out of the blazing concert hall.
