Paul Rebmann's 427 Cobra
Photos by Bill Cook
When Carroll Shelby, an
accomplished Sports Car and Formula One racer, retired from racing in 1960
he opened a high performance driving school and the Shelby American
company. His vision was to create a lightweight, limited production
American Sports Car utilizing a European body design and a Ford V8 engine.
His first endeavour was to outfit
the British built, aluminum bodies, two seat AC Ace sports car with a 289
cubic inch V8 Ford engine. The result is considered by many as the
greatest sports car and one of the fastest road cars ever constructed -
The Shelby Cobra. The Cobras and later Shelby Mustangs made Carroll Shelby
a household name by the mid 60s.
This unaltered 1967 Cobra "Street" version is capable of reaching 0 to 60
mph in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 163 mph, with the "Race" versions
topping out at over 180 mph. THis very rare example is the 6th from the
last Cobra ever produced and was delivered new by brondes Ford ot Toledo,
OH.
