Vintage Racer SFM5R096
from: www.ultimatecarpage.com

Chassis SFM5R096 Invoiced on April 29th, 1965. This GT350 R was sold new to the Comstock Racing Team from Canada. While the blue graphics on the rocker panels were retained, Comstock added a metallic green stripe over the centre of the car. At some point, a radiator overflow tank was added, which required a bubble on the engine cover to clear. This was a modification done only to the Comstock cars. This car was fielded for Talbot and Sunbeam dealer Eppie Wietzes. He had a good season racing the GT350 R, finishing on the podium on numerous occasions. The competition Shelby Mustang was then sold and continued to be raced in Canada for several more years.

By 1975, the car was in rather poor condition as the result of many seasons on the racing track and required a complete restoration. It took some time but the work was eventually completed with the help of Shelby American. First shown in public following the restoration in 1996, it was soon after acquired by American collector Robson Walton. He fielded the car in the 2000 Tour Auto before selling it to the current, Swiss owner in 2003. At that time, it was fitted with a very hot and not quite period correct engine. This has been rectified in 2015 when the engine was brought back to its original configuration to make it eligible for historic racing.
